Big Walk Troubleshooting — Mic, Joining, Lag & Controls
Pick the symptom you can observe, then change one relevant thing at a time.
Official diagnostic path
Start with the symptom you can observe
Change one thing at a time. Stop when the check no longer matches the problem instead of piling on unrelated fixes.
Friend’s game is missing
- 1Confirm the host has started a session and is still online.
- 2Add the host as a friend on the platform service, then reopen the active-friends list.
- 3If the session still does not appear, ask the host for the current Join Code.
- 4On the Mac App Store edition, use a Join Code because friend-session discovery is not available there.
Table of contents
Start with the symptom that everyone can observe. Connection problems can come from the joining player, the host, the local network, or a low host frame rate, so change one thing at a time.
A friend's game does not appear
- Add the host as a friend on the service used by your current system.
- Check the active friends-game list again.
- If the room still does not appear, ask the host for the current Join Code.
Mac App Store players do not have a Game Center friends-game list and should use a Join Code.
You cannot hear game audio
Check whether another app or website can play audio. Then open Settings > Audio and make sure the game volume is turned up.
Other players cannot hear your voice
Open Settings > Audio and watch the Microphone Activity indicator while you speak. If it does not react:
- test the microphone in another app;
- check the plug, device mute switch, and headset boom position;
- check whether Mute Mode is set to Hold and hold the required control;
- make sure the player has not been silenced in the moderation menu.
Voices are doubled or echoing
A microphone may be picking up sound from speakers. Have players mute one at a time to identify the feedback loop. The affected player can stay muted when not speaking or switch to headphones.
The game is running slowly
Open Settings > Graphics, lower Render Scale, and then lower Quality. After performance improves, raise Render Scale gradually until the image and frame rate reach a comfortable balance.
If world elements fail to appear, update the system's graphics drivers.
Players move erratically or voices drop out
- Close network-heavy apps and pause heavy traffic from other local devices.
- Move closer to the wireless router, or use Ethernet when possible.
- Make sure the host has a reasonable frame rate.
- Ask the host to lower graphics quality if the whole group is affected.
- If necessary, try a different host, understanding that a different host keeps a different save.
Voice dropouts can have the same network cause as jittery or skipping player movement.
A controller does not respond
Test the controller outside the game and disconnect other peripherals that could be competing for input. Reconnect only the controller needed for the session before launching again.
